South Carolina Supreme Court Lawyer Mentoring Program

The Supreme Court’s Mentoring Program relies on the active participation of its experienced Bar members to make the program a success. In order to help new lawyers transition between the academic world into the professional world and to assist the new lawyers in cultivating essential skills, habits, and tools necessary for a successful career as a lawyer, the Lawyer Mentoring Program is in need of highly qualified lawyers.

The program relies heavily on an extensive mentor volunteer list due to the increasing number of new lawyers who do not have employment at the time of their admission to the Bar or who have gone into solo practice. Without a law firm to join, the new lawyer does not have a natural feed to self-select a mentor, and the Lawyer Mentoring Program must assign a volunteer. The Court’s November 14th swearing-in ceremony has generated a tremendous need for volunteer mentors, and due to the economy, this trend will likely continue in the future.

By participating in this essential program, you will be providing a meaningful service to a new lawyer, the Court, and the legal profession. Your participation will serve as a way to pass on professionalism, leadership, and service and qualify you to receive four (4) hours of MCLE credit, which includes two (2) hours of LEPR credit.

For more information, please contact Debra Cooper, Mentoring Coordinator, by phone (803) 799-5578 or email: dcoopercommcle@bellsouth.net.
